Norma's Activities After the 4th Chemo Treatment

Following the fourth chemo treatment Norma continues her regular activities by attending her yoga class and seeing her personal trainer for strengthening sessions.  She also continues riding her bike trainer while watching DVDs of our bike trips.  Norma attends rehearsals every Thursday evening with the Jackson Hole Community Band where she plays the flute and piccolo.  Her favorite is the piccolo.  Currently, the band in concentrating on music for their spring concert on March 13th.
Recently we went cross country skiing north of Jackson to  explore a new area near Elk Ranch and Spread Creek.  This area is within Teton National Park.  Norma loves being in the outdoors in this beautiful part of Wyoming.  You can certainly understand Norma’s love of this area by the photo I took of her skiing with the Grand Teton mountains in the background.

Norma’s spirits really rose Thursday with the arrival of her daughter Lola from New York City.  Much ridiculousness and hijinks ensued. Here they are wearing special caps made for Norma to cover her bald head by good pal Betty Sue and niece Kerrie Lovercheck.

Norma’s spirits remain high, and Friday  she attended granddaughter Kamryn’s fifth grade spelling bee and saw her take second place.   Kamryn was snookered out of winning by the word “suffrage.”  Her best friend took it with “pedicure.” It is our unbiased opinion that Kamryn was robbed.  Then on Saturday we attended Kamryn’s giant slalom race at Snow King ski resort.  Kamryn captured 4th place and was on the podium for the award ceremonies.  The photo shows Kamryn crossing the finish line, looking just like a pro..

Norma did very well after this last chemo treatment.  In fact, her response to this last treatment was excellent.  We seem to have the side effect medication properly selected.  There was no nausea although the fatigue was ever present for a few days.  Since the first three chemo sessions did not appear to have the desired affect on the lungs as expected, a biopsy was ordered for the growth on one lung.  The procedure was accomplished with no difficulties and Norma came through with flying colors.  There were no ill side effects from the procedure.  To date the tests on the biopsy sample are inconclusive.  As a result, a 3rd chemical will be added to the chemo cocktail for the last two chemo treatments.  The next chemo treatment is scheduled for Thursday, February 24th.
Norma and I are continually amazed and extremely thankful for all the cards, comments and e-mails sent to her.  Your support is truly appreciated and your cards and e-mails are a definite positive effect on Norma’s morale and determination in beating this disease.

  1. Royal, thanks again for a wonderful posting, including "knock-out" pictures. What a beautiful corner of the world you both live in and it's wonderful to see pictures of other family members. Norma, you are continually amazing and we are in awe of your terrific attitude and determination/ability to keep up favorite activities. Keep it up and we think of you so often. Love,

  3. Norma, I know it's probably tough on you with everything you're going through and all, but thanks a ton for taking Lola off our hands for a while. NYC really needed a break! Now if we could just figure a way to ship all this snow your way, we'd be all set.

    xoxo, Jim
