One week after the great results from her October checkup Norma played with the Jackson Hole Community Band in their Halloween Concert. All members of the band wore costumes with the flute section dressed as Valkyries, since one of the concert pieces was “Ride of the Valkyries”. The photos show the Flute Valkyries, all with the Valkyrie headdress and Norma as the Piccolo Valkyrie.
The day before Thanksgiving Norma completed her goal of biking at least 500 miles in 2011. She met the goal and slightly more by biking over 11 miles to reach a grand total of 503 miles. It was beginning to appear that the last 10+ miles would be tough to get in this year due to major snow storms which passed through the area lately. However, changing to mountain bikes with studded tires and a warm sunny day, to us 45 degrees is balmy, we were able to surpass the magical 500 miles. Our friend Mort took our picture at the Elevated Grounds coffee shop at the 500 mile mark. After a warm beverage, the additional 3 miles were obtained returning to the car.
The Thursday before Thanksgiving we made our monthly trip to SLC for Norma’s checkup. This visit to SLC had an unspoken undertone to it; one year ago this week Norma was diagnosed with cancer. Test results were all positive and showed continued improvement. Norma feels top notch, which allows her to continue her normal activities. These positive results for her latest checkup provided a very real basis for giving thanks this Thanksgiving. We give thanks for the continued miracle of her treatments and improvements. We especially give thanks for all the support of her family and friends through your calls, cards, e-mails, prayers and positive thoughts. Medicine does its part, but your love and support provide the real medicine she needs. We cannot begin to thank you enough for traveling with Norma on her Greatest Challenge.
